We author-illustrators spend a lot of time in our studio-writing-igloos thinking up stories and miss seeing actual, real-life people. I really love sharing my books virtually or in-person with the very people they were made for! It’s a deep honor that I take very seriously (and seriousness can be difficult for someone in my profession).

Presentations

Large Group / 30-45 Minutes (K-2, 3-5)

I tailor each large group presentation to the age group present. I share a bit about my life, my early love for the library and art, and how books get made. We talk about how I use my imagination to make stories and how they have super-powered versions of those same skills. I then lead the room in a story building exercise, using volunteers and answers from the audience as we draw together. I read one of the books I’ve written or illustrated via AV equipment. I’ll do a Q&A as time allows.

Book Options: LITTLE BEES FLOWER, FLOWERS ARE PRETTY… WEIRD!

Small Group / 30-45 Minutes (K-5, individual grades or classrooms)

I tailor each small group presentation to the age group present. This presentation can be a smaller, more intimate version of the large group presentation. I’ve also helped work on art projects, writing projects, or led students in working on their own stories. Depending on the age group, I can read one of my books aloud and allow for more Q&A.

Book Options: Any of my books!

Virtual / 45 Minutes (K-5, individual classrooms)

Using Google Meets, Zoom, or conferencing software of your choice, students will be able to interact with me as I lead a drawing game, see where I work, and/or read one of my books. We’ll have time for Q&A as well. I request a 5 minute test call at least one day before.

I ask that you provide attentive teachers to assist with classroom management, and prepare the students ahead of time by reading at least one of my books or by sharing a project that we can discuss.

Book Ordering and Signing

Kids, families, and schools find that a visit is more memorable and impactful when a signed book is brought home. There are a couple of ways this can work:

A Local Partnership

Does your town have a local bookstore? If so, they may be more than happy to handle book sales for the author visit. They will set the price, order books, and deliver them to the school prior to the visit. You’ll communicate with them. I can work within this process to help create an order form.

Directly from the Publishers

If the school has someone who has time to order books directly from the publishers (there are several), your school can get a significant discount. You set the price and collect the orders and money. All proceeds are yours. I can work within this process to help create an order form. Be sure to tell the publishers the books are for an author visit for the biggest discount.

Rates and Fees

Typically, in-person visits with 2 large group presentations will be a 1/2 day and a series of small group visits will need a full day. My full day rate is $1000 and my 1/2 day rate is $600.

My rate for virtual visits is $400 per 45 minute session. I can do up to 3 sessions in one day.

All rates and fees are negotiable.
